Resource Manager Summary Database in PS 4.5 “Database inaccessible”

While setting up a PS 4.5 farm the other day and configuring the Resource Manager Summary database, I ran into an issue where after creating the DB on the SQL server and configuring the DSN to use Windows authentication rather than SQL authentication on the DB connection server, I was getting the error “Database inaccessible” when running the “Database Connection Server Test” in the CMC. After poking around the SQL logs I was able to figure out that the DB connection server was attempting to authenticate using the machine account of the DB connection server. Everything would work fine when using SQL authentication but not Windows authentication. After adding the machine account privelages on the SQL DB using domain\computer$, and leaving the credentials blank in the CMC, everything worked like it should. I thought this was odd at the time, but Citrix has posted a KB article detailing the known issue with 4.5 and the steps to resolve it yesterday at CTX113003

  1. Following the article allowed me to setup the Summary Database and reports ran fine from the PSC. But when I tried to generate reports from the AMC I got errors when attaching to the rmsummarydatabase. This is referenced in CTX108738 which references a MS Article that has you change ownership on the tables using SQL Analyzer. This did not work for me so the final fix was to setup a local SQL account for the summary database instead of using a Windows Domain account.

  2. Excellent, what a website it is! This web site provides helpful data to us,
    keep it up.
